i've written this letter before to myself
sent by a messenger to 1997
some things are better for sure, but for your health
before you open it you may want to sit down
there are things herein that will upset you
there are things that may surprise you
there are things in here you might find unbelievable
but in general, i think you would approve
don't worry about finding love, because you do
but you will lose it too, and that part is a doozy
but you'll be better for it, gotta push through
i can't tell you what to avoid, because who knows where i'd be now?
there are things herein that will upset you
there are things that may surprise you
there are things in here you might find unbelievable
but in general, i think you would approve

It must have been the heat of the moment
You had to make a move, man
You've been up all night
You had to go at dawn
The heat of the moment
When the truth starts to burn
You had to make a move man
You had to run
Disappear in the moonlight
before the sun comes on
I know the words get ugly
When the alcohol comes on
Got to head for the hedges
Feeling regret
Staring at the big sky
When it brings on what you're gonna get
So your stomach
Feels tied in circles
You think maybe this time
You've gone to far
Wish you could let go
Of last night
Know what you were
Know what you are
You could just let go of what you said
You could say I'm sorry
You could show regret
You don't need to hang on
To who you were
You can run just let go
You could go back
Back to her
Yeah I know when it burns them
You feel like nothing
Everything's come on
And you went too far
You could just let go
And go back to her
You could say I'm sorry
I really went a little too far
You could say I'm sorry
(and make her a short stack)

BROWN CRAYON
Pay attention
A brown crayon doesn’t taste like chocolate
You really ought to give Faulkner another chance
Some indiscretions will never stop dogging you
Carl doesn’t really have your best interests at heart
The Bonzo Dog Band are an endless revelation
That idea about pizza is better than you think
Always strive to be kind to your liver
Jennifer is every bit as wonderful as she seems

Distant Youth
Hello to my distant youth...
You really weren't a hellion but you worried me still
Way too much time on pondering fate
When you'd barely been kissed or had pissed in the lake
You looked at the world saw the mud on it's face
Loving the Brits but lamenting the States
Drunk on orange juice and cold black tea
Eating ramen noodles at near light speed
No time for Questions
There's no time to think
Hello to my distant youth...
The world got darker when you questioned your place
Singing along to the Smiths on cassette
Driving in Boston which I'll never forget
Then out in the world on your own so to speak
Up in Seattle looked at Rainier's peak
Struggled along for a year and a day
Barely food to eat next to nothing for pay
No time for Questions
There's no time to think
What did you want to say?
Think I wasn't listening
I know you suffered in your day
There's time a plenty for you still
Hello to my distant youth...
Clouds in your vision and darts on your tongue
You never quite saw what you had on your plate
Always were searching for a better debate
Tried and true you've got a noble heart
You hung on in instead of falling apart
Despite some bumps on a dark highway
Dug your heels in, soon were made in the shade

Movie marathons saved for the Sunday matinee
Rooting for the girls sporting tattoos
Our young adults would surface still unsure we’d earned a place
other than inside each other’s shoes
Oh, she got me like no one ever would again
Waving off the setting sun we ordered finer days
Midnight finds, the city all aglow
Daring chair to chair as if the music went on playing
Forgetting that the tide could come and go
Oh, she got me like no one ever would again
Faith’s all we had our boat, floating up and down we’d go oohhh
Saving each other from, storm after storm, sailing it felt like home
Oh, she got me like no one ever would again

Hey Kid by Craig Werth, Feb 2016
hey kid, give it a rest
relax and breathe in the pine trees
you’re gonna burn your heart out
caring so hard
you are not nearly strong enough
to carry the weight of the girls
and the boys
who are not happy enough
or well enough, or safe enough
who won’t ever know your name
hey kid empty your head
just once in a while
smile and be hollow
drown some cookies in milk
hoist up a pirate flag and laugh
and sleep through the night for once
sleep through the night.

Eric Ott-Why Do I

Taking my time on losing my mind
Looking for a sign or a clue
I'm writing a letter, a post note reminder
A long 3 ring binder, double sided letter to you
I've been in love, I've been broke up
I have been bankrupt and blue
I hold no regrets on my growing debt
My bank account, blood cell account don't account for anything I do
Why, Do I
Fall in love and fail, re-write the tale
of lovers scorned in hell
Why, Do I
Drink till I'm high, sleep when I'm stoned
Cry when I'm alone
Have no discipline, where do I begin
I always had a well thought out plan
Lack of concentration, some form of mediation
A gym subscription that never got much use
Why, Do I
Fall in love and fail, re-write the tale
of lovers scorned in hell
Why, Do I
Drink till I'm high, sleep when I'm stoned
Cry when I'm alone

Attics-Untrue Chorus
02:34
|
|||
You’re torn in two,
You’re feeling used.
It isn’t true.
There is no space for me,
You missed what you could be.
It isn’t true.
You lost a lot of things,
You lost what love can bring.
It isn’t true,
It isn’t true
(Repeat)

Leave It All Behind
You're pretty pissed off
And you're only five
You're gonna run away,
Find somewhere to hide
And leave it all behind
They don't quite understand you at home
You're the kind of kid
Who just needs to roam and be free
To go around the block
So get out your little suitcase
Mom says she'll even help you pack
Put on your best game face
And say that you're
Never coming back
You walk down the street
Towards your neighbor's home
You find a tree to hang your robe
And you sit with your teddy bear
You never did bargain on those hunger pains
Or on the fact that it looks like rain or even snow
Though it's only July
So pick up your little suitcase
That Mom gladly helped you pack
Put on your best sad face
And ask if they'll take you back
You were pretty pissed off for a little girl
Just a glimpse into the present world
So just smile and leave it all behind
Just smile and leave it all behind

Periphery
Dearest former self I never knew you well
But every moment chimes like a ringing bell
Did you think about where you’d be now
Or contemplate the whys or the hows
Dearest seventeen I am sorry
I never think of you did you think of me
In the spaces in between
Dear departed youth you were so obtuse
Pointing at your past was no excuse
Were there halcyon days in that mess you made
Did the long sleepless nights make you afraid
Dearest seventeen I am sorry
I never think of you did you think of me
In the spaces in between
Dearest younger me in my periphery
Sorry I lacked eyes with which to see
There’s no recompense no easy defense
I’ll chalk it all up to coincidence
