Echolocating 03:29
ECHOLOCATING Telephone wires and color tv’s Here comes the blind man looking for me Echolocating the night is for hiding Under the willows the stars are confiding The fences are rotting into forever We hit the woods, all of us together Sun-blasted fields, our bodies a secret We were trying so hard, so hard to keep it Chorus: We spun and we spun until the heaving The clouds on a drunken carousel Wish we were told before we were leaving What we could ask for who we could tell Bonfires and the pull of the stream Boombox loaded up with our dreams The lick of the flames, burn in the throat We thought we could hit every note The trees, the trees they tell us our stories We test ourselves out at the quarries Our voices are lost to the silence of granite How could we know what we took for granted Chorus Bridge We jump the brook and rob the thieves Hang our devils from the trees Our bodies a secret we try to keep Here comes the blind man looking for me Echolocating the night is for hiding Under the willows the stars confiding

Holding My Breath Another half-glass of Scotch down the sink again I don’t wanna go too far I promise to remember just who I am If you promise to remember just who you are Kneeling in the flowerbed Pulling weeds, your red dress on I’m trying to stay out of me head Lord knows I’ve been there far too long Chorus You said there were other worlds where we would meet again I said that thought was beautiful but I wouldn’t hold my breath No, I wouldn’t hold my breath Searching birds for messages From my quarrel with the sky Summer clouds are children’s sketches How they make me want to try To hold you closer than my arrogance Trust in what you believe For what is love but innocence with too much to lose to leave Chorus Chorus II Closing my eyes, my arms are wide Holding my breath like a little child Repeat

Heavy on a String I saw you and Marguerite on the bridge April’s here and the boats are coming in My thoughts are thick; my hope is thin I saw you and Marguerite on the bridge The birds are coming around again I tell my secrets to the wind Too many lies as sharp as pins The birds are coming around again I saw you and Marguerite on the bridge April’s here and the boats are coming in My thoughts are thick; my hope is thin… Spring is swinging in Heavy on a string…

Noir 01:58
Noir I thought that I could find a way inside Something to make it right But the deeper that I looked in My mind’s cop was crooked He set the hook and I took it He set the hook and I took it Maybe I’ll just stop looking Maybe I’ll just stop looking

Dance with Me I look into the mirror I want to change my hair Maybe something shorter to post on Instagram Maybe find another job maybe that feeling I’ve lost maybe meet some friends or maybe just pretend Chorus: Listen to me; don’t listen to me X4 I was told my father died When I was just a little girl My mother said is heart was too big for this world I was young and angry once I called myself a punk I try to find those old ideals smothered all these years Chorus: Talk to me; Don’t talk to me X4 I read in bed until my eyes Flutter across the page I finish off the glass of wine and gently drift away I remember my high school prom I was buzzing from the schnapps How my date was high on coke how I thought it all a joke Chorus: Dance with me; Don’t dance with me X3 Dance with me; please dance with me

Heather 03:11
Heather Heather, don’t make me a liar Heather, don’t make me a liar You’re swaying up there Too high on your wire Heather don’t make me a liar I’m down here stitching nets together while your arms are growing feathers I’m down here stitching nets together Our friends are placing bets, Heather When we first met you said you didn’t need me Looked into my eyes and said you couldn’t read me But you always knew just what you wanted Your words are hollow now; your words are haunted You always kept me safely in the darkness You said it was me, that you didn’t start this But you always knew just what you wanted Your words are hollow now; your words are haunted

Archaeology 05:18
ARCHAEOLOLOGY When they dig up our bones and study our homes will they ever find our troubled minds When they dig up our bones and study our homes will they sift through the shards of our broken hearts Chorus I Keep your distance We’ll be our own witness X2 When they dig up our bones and study our homes will our memory clouds be our only shrouds When they dig up our bones and study our homes will our broken cells have a tale to tell Chorus I When they dig up our bones and study our homes will they ever note the songs we wrote When they dig up our bones and study our homes will they ever see you and me Chorus II Archaeology No Apologies X3 Archaeology is our theology

about

For the last couple years, I’ve been playing music with Ted Ehlers in a variety of different settings. We are currently in two different bands together— The Pomeroys and Summer the Winter. Ted also has his own instrumental project called Astrospy. “The Hook” came about after I had been fussing over an album for the last few years. Unable to find the right settings for the songs, I decided it was time to turn them over to Ted’s deeply informed imagination and technical skill set. Being a multi-instrumentalist, it was important for me to be minimal with my contributions to the recording, especially drums (I play none on the album). I wanted someone to re-imagine these songs, as I have certain stylistic habits that I repeat when accompanying myself. The only guidance I gave Ted was to listen to the albums Richard Swift had produced for Damien Jurado; specifically, I wanted that big reverb sound. Another reference was Portishead, as I wanted there to be sampled beats and real drama in the music, something I have trouble creating on my own, leaning more as I do toward a kind of woozy lyricism. The result is something I never could have created on my own…
